The religious quality to the support for “responsibility to protect” (R2P) doctrine that helps account for the odd reaction among those who believe that something must be done to stop the Assad regime’s war against much of its own people despite the Russian and Chinese vetoes. Obviously, some of this is purely political posturing. But it is not only spin. The moral outrage, however misplaced, is real enough.

The false dichotomy throughout this article, is that we can either choose to go to war (which, perhaps rightly so, will release a Pandoras box of wound up sectarian tensions), or not to help out Syria at all.

I’m hoping the premise of this article, aimed as it is at “liberal hawks”, is not that its OK to go to war for oil, but not OK to go to war to help someone (e.g. a burdgening democracy) out.

But since this choice is a false dichotomy, how about we not go to war, but still get involved?  We’ve got resources - lets shed some light on whats going on in Syria!

Mark 3 (NIV)

4 Then Jesus asked them, “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they remained silent. 5 He looked around at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts, said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was completely restored.
